• How many times can I take paracetamol in a day?

  In even and spaced out doses a patient can take up to four doses per day. It is recommended to leave at least 4 hours in between each dose.

  Paracetamol 500mg tablets take up to 1 hour to work. The usual dose for paracetamol 500mg tablets is 1-2 tablets up to 4 times in a 24 hour period, with a maximum of 8 tablets taken in any 24 hour period.

• Is paracetamol safe to take with other medication?

  Paracetamol is safe to take with most medicines, however, no other products containing paracetamol should be taken whilst you are taking paracetamol, in case of accidental overdose.

  Things such as cold and flu remedies is an example of a medication that already contains paracetamol.

• Why take paracetamol 500mg tablets?

  Paracetamol has two main benefits when taken:

  • Its analgesic properties help it reduce pain symptoms;
  • While its antipyretic effect helps reduce fevers.

  It is safe to take paracetamol alongside painkillers which contain medicines such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen of Diclofenac, but NOT other medicines which also contain Paracetamol.

• Who shouldn’t take paracetamol?

  Most people over the age of 16 are safe to take paracetamol, however not everybody should take it. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you’ve:

  • Ever had a severe allergic reaction to this medicine or any medicines.
  • Have liver damage, or severe kidney problems
  • Regularly drink more than the recommended amount of alcohol in a week, e.g. 14 units

  If you weigh under 50kg (8 stone) consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking paracetamol as you may need a lower dose.

• How should I store paracetamol 500mg tablets?

  Keep paracetamol 500mg tablets stored in its original packaging to prevent the medicine from getting damp. Keep it in a dry place, away from light, below 25 degrees.

• What should I do if I take too much paracetamol?

  If you take too much paracetamol it can be extremely dangerous, so seek immediate medical advice and go to your nearest hospital casualty department immediately. If you can, take the medicine box with you, so the doctors know what you took.

• Can I take paracetamol 500mg tablets when breast feeding?

  Paracetamol 500mg tablets are safe to take while pregnant or breast feeding, however only take the recommended dose.

• Should I take paracetamol for abdominal pain?

  Most stomach aches are not serious and normally go away by themselves within a few days. Paracetamol tablets are an effective pain killer to take should you need pain relief. If the pain persists, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
